Scholarship application guide: plan, prepare and apply

Start with the official source

Confirm each scholarship on the university, funding organisation or government website that publishes it. Read the eligibility rules, covered costs, application process and closing date before preparing an application.

Check whether the opportunity fits

Compare the published requirements with your course, study level and background. Make a shortlist and record the official application links. Do not assume that an application or an offer of admission includes funding.

Organise the requested documents

Use the document list provided by the scholarship organiser. Depending on the opportunity, it may include academic records, references, a personal statement or evidence of admission. Ask referees early and keep clear copies of the files you submit.

Prepare a focused application

Answer the questions in the application instructions. Describe your own experience and goals clearly, review the word limits and check names, dates and contact details before submitting.

Keep track of deadlines and decisions

Create a checklist for each application and note the deadline with its stated time zone. Keep the submission confirmation and follow up only through the official contact channels. Selection, funding and deadlines are determined by the scholarship provider.
